Kubíčková, Tereza ; Lukášová Jeřábková, Lenka (advisor) ; Maffei Svobodová, Ludmila (referee)
Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) is very rare disease (estimated incidence is one case for one million people per year), which nature is uncontrollable reproduction of infectious prion protein in brain tissue. In some cases, the disease might have long incubation time but then very fast progression and in all cases, it ends with death. Nowadays we do not know curative treatment and the patient depends only on palliative treatment. The main goal of my Thesis is to describe a nursing care of a patient with this disease and to emphasize the importance of the palliative care. Partial goal is to describe disease progression (clinical condition of the patient) from the admission to the hospice until the end of her life (total of 27 days) and to increase knowledge about this disease among the medical staff. I also set a goal to find out specifics of care of patients with this disease. The Thesis is written as case report of a specific patient with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. The methodology for case report is detailed study of patient's medical documentation in the hospice and cooperation with nursing staff and doctors. Based on the case report I can state that palliative care does not differ a lot for varied diseases of patients, however for patients with CJD the specific is the preventive use of...
Importance of preoperative information of the patient after surgery
STRNAD, Ondřej
The goal of the bachelor's thesis entitled The Importance of Preoperative Information for the Patient after Surgery is to point out the importance of preoperative information for the patient after surgery. To achieve this goal two research questions were set: Of what importance is the information received by the patient from the nurse before surgery in the postoperative period of time? How do nurses evaluate the importance of submitting information to patients before surgery for the postoperative period of time? To achieve the above stated goal a qualitative research inquiry was used. To collect data for the empirical part of this work, a semi-structured interview was chosen. The research was going on in a surgical ward. The research group consisted of sixteen respondents, half of them was made up by patients after gallbladder surgery and the other half by nurses looking after them. Respondents' answers were noted down in a written form in a notebook, which was followed by their direct transcription into the programme Microsoft Word. The answers were processed by means of the open coding system. The research inquiry showed that patients are provided with information of various kind before planned surgery; e.g. primary information about the illness, information about the course of surgery itself, the preoperative care, the diet-measures, the rehabilitation regime. Patients after surgery evaluate, apart from some sporadic cases, all preoperative information provided by hospital staff positively. It helps them to dispel fears of the surgical intervention and brings about the sense of security and trust. Nurses' empathy is instrumental in a successful course of the postoperative period of time. The analysis of nurses' interviews shows that an informed patient equals a better cooperative and faster recovering patient. According to the gained information it would be beneficial to have a copy of the informed consent for patients made. Furthermore, the research showed that nurses could occupy themselves more with education activities concerning rehabilitation and pay more attention to finding out patients' pain intensity.
Nursing care of patients after a surgical procedure for a narrowed carotid artery
Daňková, Kateřina ; Di Cara, Veronika (advisor) ; Hocková, Jana (referee)
Abstract Surgeries of narrowed carotid arteries rank among the most common vascular medical procedures. Narrowing the carotid artery on the basis of creation of an atherosclerotic plaque is also the most common cause of stroke. It causes an insufficient blood flow to certain parts of the brain and can cause damage and lead to irreversible changes. This disease belongs among the lifestyle ones, involving a number of both controllable and uncontrollable risk factors. Prevention and timely operational and quality postoperative care are very important; the latter helps prevent fatal consequences leading to permanent disability. The aim of my thesis is to demonstrate nursing care for patients after the surgery of a narrowed carotid artery. The empirical section is based on qualitative research in the form of two case studies which describe the postoperative state of health and its progress. I point out the specifics of the nursing care for patients after the surgery of narrowed carotid artery in detail. The result of the bachelor's thesis is an overview of postoperative care which is beneficial for both general nurses and patients themselves. The thesis also encourages to reflect on the risk factors that cause this disease. Keywords: brain stroke, endartectomy, nursing care, patient's needs, carotid...
